Dark clouds usually aren't a sign of great things happening, and these airborne harbingers of chaos and disaster just confirm that bias. Often taking the form of clouds, these chimeric yokai enjoy spreading plagues, crop blights, droughts, and such by raining their "essence" down upon the land.
It is said that only a proper impaling from a firmly blessed weapon can banish these entities and the misfortune they bring, which surely is not any sort of innuendo about overly dramatic expressions of sexual frustration or anything.
